The Community Builder extension for Joomla is a fantastic user management system. Webmasters can design custom registration forms and custom profiles that encourage members to provide a treasure trove of personal information. In addition, various community building extensions like Discussion Forums and User Groups encourage members to interact with each other, and to further enhance and extend their profiles.
But how to make use of that information? That was the problem CorFun was facing in some of our major Websites that we run. Community Builder has a User Lists function that provides excellent search capabilities. Any field on the member profile can be designated as searchable. The Webmaster can then create different Users Lists that are filtered views of the members which can be searched for common demographics such as location, interests, etc.
But the results of these Users List queries can't be exported anywhere. You have all this data, and this fantastic search tool capable of really complex queries - but leading to no where. This really came home to us because of a site that we manage for the Orthodox Christian Network. The OCN was going to have a series of events around the country. The OCN site has over 8,000 members. We wanted to send really cool email invitations to each member near where an event was scheduled.
We had no problem using the Community Builder User Lists function to indentify members in the target areas. Problem was - how to get those users onto a targeted mailing list? Well that was a problem, as there was no easy way to do that. Until we created Event Mail, that is. Event Mail takes Community Builder User Lists search results and exports those results to a specified mailing list in Acajoom, the leading eNewsletter platform for Joomla.
After we coded up Event Mail, we were able to search the Users Lists by Zip Code, identify our target lists, and send them all emails inviting them out to the events. Simple, easy, effective.
So effective, that we decided that it would also help to be able to send special emails to registered attendees of the events as well. It was great to notify people of the events that were coming up, but we needed to communicate specifically to the folks who had used DT Register to sign up. So we added the feature to export registered attendees to mailing lists. And finally, to increase membership, we added the ability to automatically register attendees with the site if they weren't already members. This joining of Community Builder, DT Register, and Acajoom is a really unique Joomla component. It is extremely simple to use, yet makes targeted email marketing a snap.

SOBI2 is a fantastic directory component for Joomla. Using SOBI2, you can build business directories that are highly robust. SOBI2 has a tremendous search capability. Users can find businesses based on information in any field of the directory entries. You can even use SOBI2 as a classified ads manager.
We have a couple of sites that belong to CorFun that use SOBI2. One is FreeBeerBuddy.com the other is Orthodox Biz. There is only one drawback to SOBI2 - the search results don't map out on a Google map.
That is a problem, because whether you are searching for a bar to whet your whistle or a music class for your kid - distance from your house is a major consideration. So CorFun created a Google Mapping plugin for SOBI2 that solves this limitation. When a list of search results is returned, CorFun's extension maps them all on a Google map which displays in a floating DIV table. That is especially cool, because if you have a lot of search results on a page, then the map travels down the page with you as you scroll.

Virtuemart plus Joomla is a great solution for selling products over the Internet. Virtuemart is free, its easy to use, and it is has all the features of an industrial-strength shopping cart system. The one thing Virtuemart did not have was a product scroller that did three very important things we needed.
First, we wanted to be able to specify the exact products each instance of the scroller displayed. The existing scrollers for Virtuemart just didn't do that. In CorFun's scroller, you specify the Product IDs you want to show - and they do!
Second, we wanted the scroller to have a great look and feel that could be easily customized using CSS to match any template out there.

Virtuemart has a powerful theme system. Within the frame of the overall template, you can create an awesome look and feel that sets your store apart. Few developers have really expoited this power to max. CorFun is one of the few.
Our Flytabs theme for Virtuemart organizes all of the product information into attractive tabs. Further, it incorporates the great JQuery Image Zoom. Instead of popping up in a lightbox like most themes, our FlyTabs theme lets you mouse over the main image and see a magnification of the area around your mouse. Customers really love the display this gives as they can move around the main image and see just the areas enlarged they are interested in.
FlyTabs comes with a bundled popup player for a product video. It also handles up to four additional images, has a custom add-to-cart function and even has special styling for the category pages. The related products also show up nicely in a custom area at the bottom of the product details page.
